Youth Leadership Brentwood (YLB) awarded college scholarships to three Ravenwood High School graduates during Williamson, Inc.’s membership luncheon June 16 at the Embassy Suites Cool Springs.

The scholarship recipients are Jie Chen, Ellie Marquardt and Aditya Sathe, who were competitively selected among a pool of Youth Leadership Brentwood applicants. Chen was not able to attend the luncheon.

Sathe will stay close to home to attend Vanderbilt University in the fall. He plans to major in biomedical engineering and pursue a career in medicine.

Marquardt and Chen will attend Boston College in the fall.

“I’m nervous about the cold weather up north, but I’m excited to branch out,” Marquardt said about venturing 1,100 miles away from home. She plans to double major in elementary education and communications.

Youth Leadership Brentwood is a leadership development program of the Williamson County Chamber Foundation (WCCF), the nonprofit affiliate of Williamson, Inc., for high school sophomores and juniors who live or go to school in Brentwood. Participants engage in daylong sessions that include teambuilding exercises, taking a guided bus tour about Brentwood’s history, meeting with government leaders, conducting a mock city commission hearing, getting career tips from business leaders, and learning about community service opportunities in the area.

Businesses and community groups generously support the WCCF leadership programs for adults and youth. This year, the student scholarships were supported by a Brentwood Noon Rotary grant and funds allocated through the YLB Steering Board. Scholarship funding also comes from presenting sponsor Brentwood Academy, the Leadership Brentwood Alumni Association and parents of YLB alumni.

YLB will begin accepting applications for the class of 2016 in August and kick off the program year in October. For more information, visit www.leadershipbrentwood.org or contact foundation director Lynn Tucker at [email protected]
