East Tennessee-based Commercial Bank Opens Brentwood Location

Commercial Bank, headquartered in Harrogate, Tennessee, hosted a ribbon cutting on Tuesday in partnership with Williamson, Inc. to celebrate the opening of its Brentwood Maryland Farms branch.

The name may suggest only business loans. However, Commercial Bank offers a range of products for both consumers and businesses.

The full-service bank has 27 locations across East and Middle Tennessee and also in southeast Kentucky.

Nancy Conway, Williamson, Inc.’s senior vice president of community relations, said seven staff members work at the Maryland Farms branch.

“The economic impact that this bank will bring to this area, and already has, is tremendous,” she said. “We’re grateful for the seven employees today and your future employees.”

Commercial previously had an office in Nashville for five years, but the Maryland Farms branch will help better serve its Williamson County clients, bank CEO Terry Lee explained.

“We’re very customer and employee centered,” he said. “We don’t have anything different to sell than other banks. We just try to deliver it in a more caring and understanding way, hopefully better than our competitors.”

Lee explained the customer experience is the bank’s top priority, and steady growth is in the future, not rapid growth.

“We just want to make good business decisions and grow our business soundly and strong,” he said. “We’re on a mission to take care of our customers.”

Managing the Maryland Farms branch and the western region is longtime banker Bernie Kwas

He currently serves as the executive vice president for the bank, and he is not new to the area or the banking industry.

This year marks Kwas’ 54th in banking. He started in Buffalo, New York as a collector in 1965.

“I started out as a collector in 1965 and worked my way up through the various organizations to where I am today,” he said.

Kwas’ banking career led him to Nashville in 1977. After working for many established banks in the area, he’s spent over five years with Commercial Bank.

“I enjoy the customers,” he said. “I think the best part of my job is when I go out and visit with customers and understand their business.”

Commercial Bank is located at 5500 Maryland Way in Brentwood.
