Distinction Films Releases The World We Make Movie Filmed In Franklin

A Contemporary Story of Dreams and Diversity

FRANKLIN, TN, April 7, 2019 — Distinction Films in association with Nook Lane Entertainment announced tonight the release of their new movie The World We Make, releasing in select theaters nationally on April 19 by myCinema, followed by a Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Netflix release.

The story of 18-year old Lee, a spirited equestrian, and Jordan, an academic and football standout, they’re at the threshold of building a life together. But their character is tested when racial bias surfaces in their otherwise progressive small town. The film stars Caleb Castille (Woodlawn) and Rose Reid, and features Gregory Alan Williams (Remember The Titans) and Kevin Sizemore (Resurrection). The film includes a cameo from Mike Nawrocki (VeggieTales), and a cast of supporting actors from Nashville, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.

Castille is a former University of Alabama football player who after winning two national championships left football to pursue a career in acting. His breakout role in the Erwin Brothers-directed Woodlawn earned him critical acclaim. He recently appeared in Run the Race, and can be seen next in the new Hulu series Wu Tang: An American Saga.

Filmed in Franklin, the movie premiered tonight with a red-carpet gala at the Franklin Theatre. “We wanted to celebrate young people pursuing their dreams by telling a very timely story that explores an inter-racial romance in our modern times, but do it in a different kind of way from anything else we’ve seen. We wanted to find a fresh path into a very challenging subject matter that is hope giving and inspirational, and positive responses from our test audiences have affirmed that.” said director Brian Baugh.

The original story was conceived by Franklin native Rose Reid, who also plays the lead role, Lee Grove. Writers Brian Baugh, Chris Dowling, and George Escobar developed the screenplay, and producers Ken Carpenter, George Escobar and Brian Baugh brought the film to the screen.

“This is a celebration of filmmaking in Nashville” said producer Ken Carpenter at the premiere.  “Yes, we linked arms with some of our valued colleagues in Los Angeles, but this film represents very nicely the growing involvement of Nashville in the feature film arena.”  Carpenter’s recent production of Run The Race (executive produced by Tim Tebow) just concluded a 1300 screen release by Roadside Attractions.

Rose Reid stars next in There You’ll Find Me, a young adult romance/drama about an aspiring violinist who trades New York City for a season in a small coastal village in Ireland. The film begins shooting in May in Dublin and throughout Ireland. Reid will be appearing with Academy Award-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave. There You’ll Find Me is written and directed by The World We Make’s Brian Baugh, and produced by Ken Carpenter.
