Meet-A-Member: Affinity Technology Partners

By Wendi Pelfrey, Business Engagement Specialist, Williamson, Inc.

This week we’ll meet Betsy Wright of Affinity Technology Partners.  This local family owned IT company with a concentration on customer service.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in Nashville. My parents still live on the same, quiet street near Radnor Lake, but everything else sure has changed in town!

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now.

As an English major at Vanderbilt, I never dreamed that I would be running an IT company. I went the route of PR and marketing in the beginning of my career. When my husband started our tech company (originally 3n1media) over 15 years ago, I was involved in the periphery and have been involved part-time over the years. About 6 years ago, I realized that I could roll up my sleeves and get more involved in running the day to day operations. My background in communication ended up helping the process tremendously as I had to organize and work with a lot of moving and different parts. As a local, my connections have helped grow our business and allowed us to work with great people.

What is your business and how/why did you start your business?

Affinity Technology Partners serves as an outsourced IT department for small to mid-sized businesses. For us, that means going above and beyond reactive support for issues, and providing proactive maintenance to reduce downtime, as well as CIO-level strategy. The result is IT that works and powers business growth. We started our business out of a passion to help small to mid-size companies experience enterprise-level quality and service for all of their technology needs.

What is unique about your business?

We take the initiative to think like an internal IT department for our clients. That means that we look to solve issues before they even occur, and to align our clients’ technology with actual business needs. We also have a rigorous hiring process, which involves cutting-edge behavioral assessment technology to find candidates who are excellent communicators and collaborators. In all of this, our mission is to use technology as a force for good in organizations throughout Middle Tennessee. Our clients experience this and trust us to help them grow their businesses.

Why did you choose Williamson County to open your business?

We opened our office in Brentwood ten years ago. It’s easy to access all of the major commercial office spaces within a short drive.

In your own words, why is it great to do business in Williamson County, TN?

Williamson County is a place that people want to be and to work. Because of this, we have the opportunity to work with stellar companies who are moving to the area and growing their businesses. As a service company, we depend on strong companies with strong business growth. This area attracts the best of the best, and it’s great to be able to partner with them!

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer?

Decide what is really important for your business. As an IT company, we find that technology is not one-size-fits-all. Make sure that you utilize what is best for your business goals and make sure that you are aware of the risks for your industry.  Downtime, compliance issues, and breaches can hurt productivity and increase your exposure.

How can readers take advantage of your products and services?

Affinity Technology Partners offers complimentary initial consulting – where we sit down, hear business goals, and determine if we can help companies achieve these goals. We’re hosting several events free to the public in October and have been designated an official National Cyber Security Awareness Month Champion by the National Cyber Security Alliance.
