Habitat for Humanity’s 2016 Hammers and High Heels

Women Build Fundraiser on April 22nd

Event to Take Place at The Factory in Franklin, TN from 6:00 – 9:00 pm (CDT)

Franklin, TN (April 5, 2016) — Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury is happy to announce the 2016 Hammers and High Heels Women Build fundraiser that will take place on April 22nd at The Factory, 230 Franklin Road, in Franklin, TN from 6:00 – 9:00 pm CDT.  The event will feature live music from Clearview Jazz Orchestra, great food from several high-profile vendors, beverages (wine, beer, spirits, Coca Cola), and a Silent Auction with over 100 items that includes guitars signed by Christian Artist Michael W. Smith and Country Superstar Brad Paisley.  Tickets are $40.00 each and include two drink tickets for the price of one admission. Tickets may be purchased online at www.habitatconcert.com until noon on April 22nd.  After that time, tickets can be purchased at the door for $50.00 as long as there is availability.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the purchase of building materials needed for the Women Build home.  Single mother Anyiir Aguto and her family will help build the home and will purchase it with a zero-interest mortgage in June.

Anyiir came to the United States from the Sudan as a refugee of war. She is delighted to be able to buy a home where she can raise her two beautiful daughters, Atong (12) and Ayen (11).  The actual building of the home will take place from April 2nd through June 4th, and most of the volunteers building the home will be women. If someone would like to volunteer for the project, please contact Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury at 615-550-5617.

“Every year we have great event, but this year’s Hammers and High Heels is not to be missed,” notes Habitat Williamson Director of Communications Jennee Galland. “In addition to the great food and drinks from local favorites like TomKats CateringSopapillas, and Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, we are excited to welcome the 18-member Clearview Jazz Orchestra who will help us dance the night away! Every dollar raised at the event will go straight to supporting our Women Build home for Ms. Aguto and her family.”

Anyiir is counting down the days until she can move into her new affordable home.  “I am so grateful for those that are sponsoring my home,” she remarks.  “There have been so many people that have helped me and my family along the way, and I will never forget a single act of kindness towards me. This will change our lives forever.”

About Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury Counties

For 22 years, Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury Counties (HFHWM) has partnered with local churches, businesses, foundations, and the public sector to provide 202 Williamson and Maury County families with the opportunity to purchase their own homes. Home construction and neighborhood development is funded through tax-deductible financial contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals, as well as through profits generated from the affiliate’s ReStore. These contributions, along with the labor of sponsor employees, church members, high school students, and other volunteers, enable HFHWM to build and sell homes to families who qualify.

After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. HFHWM partner families must earn at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” by completing a homebuyer’s education program and working on their home and the homes of others. HFHWM sells the homes at no profit and provides a zero-interest mortgage loan, which make payments affordable.
