More plants, more varieties means a better garden for you

On April 6, 2019, the Mid-Tenn. Perennial Plant Society will once again offer local plant lovers the most beautiful, most diverse, and healthiest garden plants in Tennessee at The PPS Plant Sale. This annual event, which begins at 9 a.m. at The Fairgrounds Nashville, supports local scholarships for Tennessee horticulture students and monthly gardening programs at Cheekwood, which are open to the public.

Looking for unusual plants?  The PPS plant sale offers newly released and hard-to-find perennials from top local nurseries.  “We’ve added additional growers this year to offer a larger selection for our gardeners,” says Plant Sale Acquisitions Co-Chair Mickey Newman.

Just getting your hands dirty with your first garden?  The PPS Sale is filled with tried and tested varieties that have graced Tennessee gardens for decades.  Plus expert “plant guides” will give you advice on what to buy, how to plant it, and how to keep it alive. Signs above most plants show a picture of the plant in bloom and tips on planting and cultivation.  For a complete list of plants, visit www.ppsmtn.org and click on the “Plant Sale” tab.

“This year, we’re so excited to be offering more plants than ever before. We’ve increased our purchases by more than 25 percent because we’ve been selling out so early. We want every gardener who visits the sale to find that plant they’ve been dreaming about,” says PPS Plant Sale Chair Mariwyn Evans.  More than 450 varieties of perennials, vines, grasses, shrubs, and annuals will fill the Sports Arena on April 6.

Selection isn’t the only reason to come to the sale. Prices are as low as many big box stores. And quality is much higher since all plants come from local, handpicked growers.  Admission to the sale is free; Metro charges $5 for parking.

So whether you’re an experienced gardening hand or a newcomer to the exciting world of plants, the 2018 Perennial Plant Society Sale has the perfect plant for you. See you April 6!  Come by 8:30 a.m. for best selection.  We sell out early!

Background: The Perennial Plant Society of Middle Tennessee promotes the use of perennial plants in the landscape and offers education to local gardeners and scholarships to area horticulture students. The annual plant sale is the group’s major source of funding for these activities. The group holds free monthly education meetings, which are open to the public. It also offers garden tours to members. For more information, visit www.ppsmt.org.
