Nashville, Williamson high schools rank among state’s best

Several Middle Tennessee high schools are ranked among the top 10 high schools in the state, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Hume Fogg Magnet School and Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School ranked first and second in the state. Both schools are Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Central Magnet School of Rutherford County ranked third, followed by Merrol Hyde Magnet School in Sumner County. Three Williamson County schools — Brentwood High School, Ravenwood High School and Franklin High School — also made the top 10 list.

Centennial High School and Independence High School of Williamson County made the state’s top 20 schools, according to the ranking.

The annual state rankings consider performance on the math and reading portions of state proficiency tests, graduation rates, college readiness and proof that schools serve all students well.

Top 10 high schools in the state:

1. Hume Fogg Magnet School, Metro Nashville Public Schools

3. Central Magnet School, Rutherford County

6. L&N STEM Academy, Knox County 

7. Ravenwood High School, Williamson County

8. Franklin High School, Williamson County 

9. University School, Washington County 

10. Collierville High School, Shelby County
