“The City is doing great!”

That was the message shared by Fairview Mayor Patti Carroll at the Fairview Area Chamber’s State of the City Address held on Tuesday at Camp Marymount.

We’re actually better than most people realize. We are better than we have been in years…because we know exactly where we are. We know where are our finances are. We know where we’re going. We know what we need to do. We’re putting plans in place. We have a board of commissioners that try to work hard together even though we may not always agree.”

Carroll said despite the difference of opinion between city commissioners on city matters, “We want what’s best for our community.”

Referencing the City’s 700-acre nature park, great schools along with new sidewalk grants,  Carroll said Fairview also offers “the best of both worlds” with rural living convenient to larger cities.

The highlight of her address focused on the city’s recent financial crisis. “We are in black – and it’s thanks to our citizens and thanks to our city staff,” stated Carroll, who received a loud round of applause. The mayor was referencing the city’s property tax increase for the current budget year and the staff’s cuts in expenses.

Fairview is going in the right direction, according to Carroll, who referenced several key factors including the city’s improved relationships with other levels of government; its ability to complete several grant projects in recent years; plus, new residential and commercial growth.

Enthusiastically, Carroll said, “I live in one of the best cities in America!”
