Brentwood Academy Seniors Offered More Than $8 Million in Scholarships
The 117 members of the class of 2016 have been offered more than $8 million in college scholarships, not including the Tennessee Hope Scholarship. The various scholarships are designated for leadership, academics, fine arts, forensics, and/or athletics.
Several seniors have been awarded the top scholarships offered by their college of choice. Four of these members of the class of 2016 include:
Brock Schoenwald was accepted into the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program, the only scholarship in the country that offers students access to the resources of two of the most highly regarded universities – Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a Robertson Scholar, Brock will not only participate in a world-class undergraduate leadership development program, but he will receive four years of full tuition, room and board to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Furthermore, Brock will have unique access to academic and extracurricular offerings at both UNC and Duke and funding for three summers of domestic and international experiences. Each year approximately 18 students from UNC and 18 students from Duke University are selected to join the Robertson Scholars community.
Olivia Cook received and accepted the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship at Vanderbilt University where she will study Engineering. Fewer than 1% of freshman applicants are selected to receive this prestigious scholarship. It includes full tuition for four years plus a stipend to participate in a study abroad or research investigation experience. As a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship recipient, Olivia will also have the opportunity to participate in a series of programs designed for the most academically talented students at Vanderbilt.
Noah Franks received the highly competitive and prestigious Beering Scholarship at Purdue University, where he will enroll in the honors college this fall. The Beering Scholarship covers one bachelor’s degree, one master’s degree, and either a Ph.D. or a professional degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy. In addition to having allowances for housing, books and travel, Noah also receives funding for a one-semester study abroad experience. Less than 10 incoming students each year receive this premier scholarship.
Jeffrey Williams received and accepted the Chancellor’s Scholarship from Texas Christian University. This prestigious scholarship covers full tuition for all four years of his undergraduate studies along with funding for an international travel experience. As a Chancellor’s Scholar, Jeffrey will get to interact with the University’s Chancellor at specialized retreats, networking opportunities and other leadership events.
The members of the Brentwood Academy Class of 2016 will attend 42 colleges and universities in 16 states and DC with 100% of the class being accepted to a four-year college or university. Brentwood Academy upper school students are assisted in college selection preparations by Shelley Miller, Director of College Counseling, and Courtney Jones, Associate Director.
